Hawkers of SG #64 – Min Nan Pork Ribs Prawn Noodle

I started Min Nan Pork Ribs Prawn noodle in 1995 and have been mending my stall for 25 years now. This business was started by my father and given my love and passion for food and cooking, I decided to follow in his footsteps of becoming a hawker stall owner.

Being a hawker owner definitely entails challenges and one of it is ensuring that we have sufficient manpower at hand to run the stall operations. These days, it is getting increasingly hard to hire people who are willing to work as hawker stall assistants as the role is very physically taxing. Many young people would prefer taking on an office job instead and governmental grants are angled at hawker stall owners (not assistants). I am hoping that in the future, the government can do more to incentivize people to become hawker stall assistants. With the Covid situation now, our orders have also taken a hit. Thankfully, there are apps like WhyQ which aid us in digitalising and increasing our online presence. This has really helped to boost our orders especially during the circuit breaker period.

I usually reach the stall at about 6am every morning and spend about 2 hours setting up the stall and doing some food preparation. Between 8am to 11am, we are involved in service as well as continued food preparation. Our lunch service is from 11am-2pm and our dinner service is from about 6pm-7pm. We then begin to close our stall for the day at 8pm.

As a hawker, I feel very pleased when I receive praises about my food from my customers! When I receive kind appreciation from my customers, it makes me feel like all my effort put in for preparing my food is worth the while!

Despite my tough lifestyle, I am still motivated to work hard. I enjoy what I am doing and more importantly I work hard because I want to be able to provide a comfortable life for my family and myself.

I would recommend all to come and try my signature pork ribs noodle to all! That is the most famous dish on my menu. Tender pork ribs, fresh prawns mixed together in a flavourful broth. I assure you that is one good bowl of pork ribs prawn noodle. Come, place an order with WhyQ and have a try for yourself!
